We aim to operate in a safe, efficient and ethical way, protecting the planet and supporting the communities we work in. Learn how Somalev embraces sustainability best practices and how we are making this a fundamental part of how we operate responsibly.

HELPING THE WORLD TO GROW SUSTAINABLY

As the market leader in engineered heavy lifting and transport, we believe we should be at the forefront of sustainability efforts within our industry. We aim to operate in a safe, efficient and ethical way, protecting the planet and supporting the communities we work in while widening the value we offer.

Somalev has an integrated approach to sustainability across the business, through a 2030 roadmap linked to the UN’s sustainable development goals. Through it, we aim to create new partnerships with customers, suppliers and communities to create joint sustainability initiatives.

This complements our programs for health and safety, diversity, ethics and compliance and corporate social responsibility.

Aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals

To guide, drive and measure sustainability in a way that will increase its impact and value for customers we have adopted a sustainability roadmap outlining key focus areas through to 2030.

It is focused on four key themes, each with a set of targets to support them so that we have a meaningful way to measure progress and performance. These mirror their UN equivalents and are: ‘Market Leadership’; ‘Sustainable Engagement’; ‘Efficient Operations’ and ‘Responsible Employer’.

We regularly assess our progress against these targets.

Sustainable initiatives that contribute to a better future

Somalev is constantly exploring ways to both reduce the environmental impact of existing heavy transport and lifting technology, as well as bringing through innovations that offer new, zero-carbon solutions.

In recent years, we have developed the world’s first fully electric SPMT trailers; engineered zero-emission offshore wind and onshore wind cranes; exchanged hardwood with sustainable alternatives; proven the concept of biofuels for heavy transport; as well as many smaller sustainability initiatives.

Each day, we work with our renewable energy partners to put in place more clean energy infrastructure, building a more sustainable world for future generations.
