As part of the modernisation of its container terminal at the port of Casablanca, Marsa Maroc entrusted SOMALEV with dismantling two ship-to-shore container cranes that had been in service for more than 20 years. Between November and December 2025, booms, machinery houses and portal sections were removed piece by piece.

We selected two telescopic mobile cranes rather than lattice boom cranes: a Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1 and an LTM 1250/1, working alone or in tandem depending on the load. This kept configuration changes fast and the footprint small in a confined port area.

The age of the structures called for conservative load assumptions: risk assessments of damaged components, redundant rigging, exclusion zones and continuous monitoring of wind and crane parameters. The terminal kept operating throughout the works.
